"The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series: Science in Art" Scientist Sharing Session — Coral Mom

The waters of Hong Kong have different types of corals, but because corals live underwater, we rarely have the chance to see them, let alone know their growth conditions and environment. The Science Promotion Unit hopes to draw the audience's attention to coral through the artwork "Coral Fractals" on land. We have invited Professor Apple Chui, a Hong Kong coral expert known as "Coral Mom", to introduce the growth of corals in Hong Kong and how her research team uses sexual and asexual reproduction to restore corals. The assistant curator of the Science Promotion Unit has also turned into a reporter and visited the Simon F.S. Li Marine Science Laboratory of The Chinese University of Hong Kong to visit the coral babies cultivated by Professor Chui and the team, and to reveal the cultivation process of the babies.

Time: 24.9.2022 (Sat) | 16:00 – 16:30

Speaker: Prof. Apple Chui (Research Assistant Professor, School of Life Sciences, CUHK; Founder of Coral Academy)
